ANDREA ALLEN

I am a current student and Chicago based artist. I make my work using many different methods and materials in response to my ongoing exploration and experimentation with the arts.

I use sharp lines and vibrant colors to illustrate and abstract the Southwest landscape in my painting and drawings, while using sculpture to depict the more haunting subject-matter and functional ceramic work. My work bridges themes that are both modern and dealing with my nostalgia for the region.
Growing up in the Southwest I had been constantly bombarded with and observant of the popular motifs and signage associated with the region. In my current practice I find that alluding to these themes and stereotypical sights becomes my primary focus; things like typical landscapes, life, and characters indicative of American Deserts.
My work has always come from a place of personal interest. Over the years I had explored many different themes or genres of subjects, before honing in on my love of southwestern art. It is my longing for this place that drives me to paint, draw and sculpt my many western/macabre scenes and mementos.
